About This Spot

Stepping into Prickett Richard is like slipping into a quiet, thoughtfully curated world tucked just off Calgary’s lively 17th Avenue. This cocktail bar greets you with a subtle sophistication—a dimly lit space adorned with leather and rich woods that hint at timelessness, yet with a modern edge that invites you to linger a little longer. It feels intimate without being exclusive, a place where conversations can flow as smoothly as the carefully mixed drinks.

The pace here moves with a calm confidence. It’s not hurried or brash, but comfortably alive, with a gentle hum of background music and quiet laughter weaving through conversations. The atmosphere is both polished and inviting, making it an ideal spot for winding down after a busy day or celebrating moments worth savoring.

Prickett Richard’s menu is a thoughtful extension of its ambiance. Cocktails arrive with a sense of purpose and artistry—whether you’re drawn to a playful take on a Pina Colada or a fragrant, bold creation like the Channel Orange, the drinks ask to be experienced rather than just consumed. Food offerings align with this balance, presenting dishes that complement the drinks’ complexity without overshadowing the relaxed vibe. Sharing fried calamari or indulging in the fresh taste of oysters becomes part of the soft rhythm of the evening, grounding the experience with small, satisfying bites.

What makes this place resonate is its ability to feel like a well-kept secret—the kind of bar where the staff’s warmth and attentiveness quietly shape the evening, and the dimmed corners create a cozy refuge with a subtle edge of style. Whether stopping by for a sophisticated solo nightcap or gathering with friends for a slow, sociable evening, Prickett Richard holds a space for connection, conversation, and discovery amidst Calgary’s urban pulse.

A really nice place to spend the evening and enjoy good company. When we arrived, it was quite busy. Everything we ordered was delicious. It would be even better if there were more dishes on the menu — especially more vegetarian options — since the selection was a bit limited. Overall, it’s a cozy and pleasant spot that I’d definitely recommend.

This hidden bar off of 17th Ave is so sexy. Entering the downstairs venue brings you to a dim interior of what feels like a wine cellar filled designer furniture; which gives a sophisticated vibe. My group of 3 stopped by when they opened for a quick cocktail and snack and the menu gave a good variety of interesting options and pairings. I'm glad Calgary has a bar with this caliber of vibe; we will definitely be back!

Absolutely love this place!! Probably our favourite cocktail bar in the city. It was really busy when we came in but everyone especially the hostess was really nice and attentive. I loved the atmosphere and the songs they were playing. Cocktails were amazing!! I highly recommend ‘lime in the coconut’ if you don’t like the taste of alcohol and ‘channel orange’ if you want something fragrant/ stronger

Such a cool and classy vibe in this bar. I love the stylish well-mixed drinks and delicious food. It was perfect for a girls’ night out. The servers were attentive and quick as well. Meagan is such a sweetheart! We had calamari and chicken fried mushrooms, along with the Nero pasta and some of the cheese toast. I’m sorry I don’t have more pics but we gobbled it all up before I remembered to post! Hahaha.

The music was old school rap. Not really goong with the otherwise very 20s atmosphere. My drink was super fun... we fidnt eat there. Service was excellent . All in all not the worst speakeasy. Also not very speakeasy ish

Atmosphere: 9/10 Located in Calgary’s Beltline district, Prickett Richard is discreetly nestled beneath Comery Block Barbecue, accessible via a steel door in the back alley off 6th Street SW. The space, reminiscent of a transformed wine cellar, exudes an upscale and intimate ambiance. Exposed brick arches, warm lighting, and a mix of bar seating, tables, and couches create a cozy yet sophisticated setting. The background music complements the vibe without overpowering conversation. While the backbar isn’t particularly standout, the overall design and atmosphere are impressive. Drinks: 9.5/10 Recommendation: Slaughtered Ox The cocktail menu is extensive and creatively curated, featuring a diverse range of drinks with unique ingredients. Notably, it includes an exotic Louis XIII Sidecar priced over $500. The Slaughtered Ox, a Sazerac-style cocktail, stood out with its perfectly balanced flavors and a complementary chocolate garnish. Drinks are presented in high-quality glassware, accompanied by thoughtful garnishes and served on nice coasters, enhancing the overall drinking experience. Service: 7/10 The staff is professional, though interactions felt somewhat distant. Water was provided upon arrival, and prices are slightly above average for Calgary, but they align with the quality and atmosphere offered.

The vibes of this dimly lit speakeasy were really nice. Enjoyed the lime in the coconut. Cheese toast was pretty good and the chicken fried mushrooms too! But the best part is feeling like you're in a secret club. Date night or small gathering with close friends.
